Genesis 8:1, 9: 7 ~ 17

I was watching part of a National Geographic special on Noah.  They tried to say that the world wide flood was a hoax. Noah and his sons supposedly built a barge for themselves and only their livestock.  They floated down a flooded river to avoid paying their debts.  At that point I changed the channel.  God did not lie.  The story of Noah is true. It is the story of our redemption

1. then God remembered Noah & the all the animals

   a. God had not forgotten, it was just now time to act

   b. for 150 days the flood waters had covered the earth

   c. God sent a wind & water receded & land dried

2. first thing Noah did after leaving the ark was offer sacrifice

   a. God smelled aroma & was pleased

   b. God blessed Noah, be fruitful and multiply vs. 9:1, 7

   c. same message is to us be fruitful & multiply

3. flood has changed things they are different now

   a. suddenly animals fear us did not before

   b. now vs. 4 we are told to eat meat along w/plants even those animals later forbidden under the law

4. God’s covenant w/Noah, his descendants & all animals

   a. eat meat but not blood, cook it this is before the law

       1) something must die that we may live

   b. blood represents life which God cherishes

       1) without the shedding of blood no forgiveness of sin

   c. vs. 6 whether man or animal shall die for killing someone

       1) will be an accounting for our actions here not just later

       2) people had mistaken God’s patience for acceptance

       3) today God’s patience mistaken as He doesn’t exist

   d. promise never again destroy all living things w/flood

        1) II Peter 3:2 ~ 7 next time fire will cleanse earth

        2) as with flood earth will remain but changed

   e. rainbow is sign of God promise He re: when He sees it

   f. covenant established by God all we have to do is receive

The great flood happened.  The earth will be cleansed by fire. God provided an ark of safety for those who believed.  That place of safety now is the church the body of Christ to all who believe in the name of Jesus.
