The outpouring of the Holy Spirit Acts 2:14 ~ 21
On the day of Pentecost the believers were immersed into the Holy Spirit. The followers of Jesus were forever changed. They went from fear and hiding to a boldness that shocked their enemies and the world.
1. when believers were immersed in Holy Spirit began to speak a. at all times they had control over their tongue b. they willing opened their mouth and let God use them c. Yes they heard a violent sound & saw tongues of fire d. their physical senses experienced God had to tell someone
2. God uses men to spread the His good news/ you can say no a. God only speaks thru those who let Him control tongue James 3:8 b. can’t do the work of God w/out God, nor speak for Him c. at times we take back control in middle of God speaking d. the scripture is our standard to check by
3. the apostles stood together & Peter took the lead a. the message was clear for all to understand b. will you listen carefully that faith may grow c. not everyone hearing will receive, mock & ridicule d. regardless we are to speak the truth in love
4. outpouring of Holy Spirit began at Pentecost didn’t end a. those who first received passed it on to all who will receive b. Holy Spirit is not for select few is for all who believe vs. 2:38 c. this is the promise & God will honor His word
5. Holy Spirit changes us to be like Jesus a. everyone receives spiritual gifts for others b. everyone receives the fruit of the Spirit for others c. Peter tells us God will reveal things to us vs. 17 & 18 d. we are to prophesy, that is to proclaim the good news
The outpouring of the Holy Spirit is what God used to make us one with Him and each other. The Holy Spirit is here to guide our tongues, our actions and even our attitudes. The key word is guide not dictate. We have to cooperate willingly for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit to be seen in our lives. Are you cooperating or resisting the Holy Spirit? |
