Genesis 3

Deception

We are not going to discuss pink elephants today so don’t even think about them.  We are going to discuss deception.

1.God put many trees in the garden of Eden

  a. tree of life and the tree of knowledge of good and evil

  b. God told Adam not Eve not to eat of fruit Gen. 2:16 & 17

  c. could have eaten from tree of life but chose tree of knowledge of good and evil Duetro. 30:19 

2. along comes the serpent, any snake lovers here Rubber snake

 a. Zachary and Isaac do, ball python and green tree python

3. Eve’s conversation with the snake John 8:44 devil is a liar &

  a. 1^st step in deception was to cast doubt upon what God said Romans 16:17 & 18 questioning God’s character

  b. Eve got the word of God wrong John 8: 31 & 32

  c. I Timothy 2: 11 -14 Men are to take the leadership in the spiritual teaching of the home and church

4. how would you deal with the tree, put a fence around it?

  a. what weren’t we going to discuss today pink elephants

  b. devil didn’t attack Adam he went after Eve, ( I Timothy 2:14)Adam not deceived Eve was deception led to sin

  c. convinced Eve that God was holding out on her

  d. Colossians 2:8 (hold to the past etc. that old time religion)

  e. James 1:22 Adam didn’t do what God had told him

  f. men are to take the leadership but it doesn’t remove responsibility from women I Timothy 2:14

 g. Eve ate and sinned Adam was still without sin and he wasn’t deceived.

 h. why would Adam eat knowing death would come, was it because his wife told him to or was it because of his love for Eve for the 2 had become one flesh

 i. here we see what Christ did the 2^nd Adam

  j. Adam w/out sin is like Christ w/out sin seeing Eve/ us in sin

  k. Christ who was without sin became sin on the cross that we might be with Him just as Adam became sin to be with Eve

5. the desire to be like God is still around today  Obadiah 1:3 The pride of your heart has deceived you

   a. the fruit looked good what could be the harm

   b. e-mails from middle east offering money  

6. God desires what is best for us

  a. we need to learn obedience I Samuel 15:22

  b. Hebrews 5:14 spiritual maturity = being able to discern good from evil

  b. If you will seek first the kingdom of God, life, then these other things will be added to you

Had Adam and Eve chosen the tree of life that they might be with God then at the right time He may have added the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, maybe not.  God has given you many options.  Some lead to death some to life Dueteronomy 30:19.  There will always be a serpent around to distort the truth.  Don’t be deceived God is not mocked whatsoever a man soweth so shall he also reap. Is your faith like Eve’s based on what someone else tells you or is it like Adam having a first hand experience with God.  Do you choose righteousness like Christ or death like Adam.  Don’t be deceived choose life that you and your family may live.  The time to choose is always now.
